This coffee comes to you from the Gayo Mountain region around Lake Tawar, near the northern tip of Sumatra. Ideal for growing coffee, the area is characterized by abundant rainfall, fertile soil, and an altitude of 1100 - 1500 meters. Coffee, however, is the main source of income for the people of this region and much care is taken in all stages of its production. The cooperative has developed a special semi-washed preparation of their coffee that brings out the wildness in the flavor.
The Gayo region strives to maintain stable economic and environmental
conditions and to preserve the well-being of the community and its
surrounding ecosystem. This is a society with a rich and alluring
cultural heritage.
