Ethiopia

Ethiopia is known as the birthplace of coffee. Coffee farmers live a very traditional lifestyle, farming fewer than 5 acres of land. The geographic location of Ethiopia makes growing conditions for coffee ideal. The soil type and climatic conditions – including altitude, rainfall, and temperature – all make for exemplary production of Arabica Coffee, giving unbelievable fruitiness to every cup. Depending on altitudinal variation and rainfall distribution, the harvesting period varies from September to December. Export of quality coffee is ensured through integrated quality control systems at different stages of the life-cycle of the product. Only those beans that meet the export standard and know origin are allowed to export. With the Fair Trade premiums they have greatly improved local infrastructure, constructed five primary schools, four health clinics and one bridge. Read more...
