The Desert Sun Story
The story inside every cup of Desert Sun Coffee reaches many miles away into the fields and lives of coffee growers all over the world. Coffee is the second largest traded commodity next to oil, yet very little is known about these little magic beans and their fascinating journey from plant to cup (See "Coffee Processing" in Image Gallery). Few know that during the roasting process, a single bean will undergo over 900 chemical reactions and that a few seconds difference during roast can dramatically change its flavor.

Desert Sun Coffee Roasters is located in Durango, Colorado. Our goal is to personalize the connection from grower to consumer. Rarely when enjoying a cup of remarkable coffee, do we think about the extraordinary process by which it came into being and what consequences, positive or negative, its cultivation has on the earth.
Coffee growers worldwide are being robbed of their crops and deprived of their rightful income by large commercial coffee buyers who demand prices below production cost. In order to survive, these farmers are faced with the difficult choice of accepting a small compensation for their efforts or losing it all; a seemingly endless downward spiral.
On the contrary, Desert Sun recognizes the importance of supporting and sustaining the regions in which its coffee is grown. The company is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of coffee growers worldwide and to improving the health of the global environment by committing to the purchase of 100% Certified Organic and Fairly Traded coffee beans. Desert Sun Coffee Roasters is proud to be a member of Cooperative Coffees.
